2023 Summer Paving Project

CANASTOTA, NY – The Village of Canastota’s annual paving project will get underway in mid-July.

Portions of the following streets are scheduled to be paved this year:

– James Street from Main Street to approximately the Canastota Creek (440 feet)
– Tuttle Ave. from Route 5 to Rosewood Circle (837 feet)
– Getmac Ave. from Lenox Lane to the curve near West Ave. (407 feet)
– Stroud Street from Route 5 to the crest of the hill near Port Street (338 feet)
– Port Street from Stroud Street to the dead end (854 feet)
– Taylor Ave. from S. Park Street to New Boston Street (710 feet)
– Park Street from W. Park Street to Taylor Ave. (286 feet)

The cost of the project is $196,289. Much of the cost will be reimbursed through CHIPS and other New York State road maintenance programs.

The Dolomite Group is the contractor for this project. Dolomite says it is scheduled to mill the streets on July 14 and 17 and pave on July 18 and 19. This is a tentative schedule and may change according to weather and other factors. Residents who live in the neighborhoods listed above are advised not to park on the street on those dates.

The village office is already working on the list of streets to be paved in 2024. Many streets which require repaving are on a waiting list for drainage work or other repairs. Those include Hickory, Lewis, Pleasant, Douglas Heights, Ball, Belleview, Rasbach, and Will New, among others.

The village is also aware of the rough stretch of Peterboro Street/Route 13 from the Thruway exit to approximately Maple Ave. That is a state road and under the control of the NYS DOT. As of now the village has not been given a timetable on repairs to any part of Peterboro Street.

If you know of a street that is in need of major paving or patching please email village@canastota.com and we will put it on the list for consideration. Thank you.
