WELCOME TO CANASTOTA’S NY FORWARD HOMEPAGE

The Village of Canastota is one of two communities in the Central New York region to be selected for the second round of the State’s NY Forward program. Canastota was awarded $4.5 million to help complete transformative and/or catalytic projects in and near downtown. NY Forward funds are also used to provide robust capacity-building and technical assistance directly to communities throughout each phase of the program.

This site will be updated throughout the planning process this year with information about upcoming meetings, ways to share your ideas and feedback, and past meeting summaries.

THE LATEST

The next Local Planning Committee (LPC) meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the former Red Onion storefront at the corner of Peterboro and Center streets. This is a working meeting for committee members but is open to the public to observe. There will be a public comment period at the end of the meeting.

The public is also invited to attend the second NY Forward public meeting on Thursday, September 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Canastota Jr./Sr. High School cafeteria on Roberts Street. This is an opportunity to learn more about the NY Forward process and provide feedback on projects up for consideration. That feedback will help the Local Planning Committee as they evaluate projects to recommend for funding consideration.

ABOUT NY FORWARD

This is the second year of New York State’s NY Forward (NYF) program to invigorate and enliven downtowns in New York’s smaller and rural communities. As a complement to the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), NY Forward focuses on creating healthy, vibrant, walkable downtowns that catalyze sustainable economic development and accrue numerous economic, social, and environmental benefits to the locality, the region, and the State as a whole.
