Canastota Fire Department welcomes new fire truck
CANASTOTA, NY – The Canastota Fire Department has proudly added a new fire truck to its fleet, replacing a truck which has served our community for more than 44 years.
At 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 2nd, Truck 122/Engine 2 was officially put into service. This Navistar/International pumper was constructed by Darley on a CV chassis and is the second of its line.
The new Truck 122 was purchased for $440,615 through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which was secured by Canastota Fire Company President and Past Chief Douglas Chandler. The cost of the truck was primarily funded by the FEMA grant, with a $21,428 match from the village.
The new vehicle replaces the former Truck 122, a 1979 Ford pumper nicknamed “Old Betsy” which was also built by Darley. That truck has been decommissioned by the Fire Department and Village Board of Trustees and will be sold at auction.
