Former Canastota Mayor Donald Cerio passes away
On behalf of the residents, businesses, and employees of the Village of Canastota, the Canastota Board of Trustees wishes to extend its condolences to the family and friends of former Mayor Donald “Biff” Cerio Sr., who passed away on December 11, 2024 at the age of 94.
Mr. Cerio was a lifelong Canastota resident and served his community in numerous capacities, including eight years as Mayor (1981-1989) and fourteen as a Village Trustee. During his time in office, Mr. Cerio made significant contributions to the construction and/or expansion of several village buildings and properties, including the municipal building, the fire station, the public works building, the wastewater treatment plant, and the industrial park.
Mr. Cerio was also a Canastota Police Commissioner, a member of the Canastota Volunteer Fire Department, a Pop Warner football coach, a member of the Canastota Lions Club, Canastota VFW Post #600, and Canastota American Legion Post #140.

To honor former Mayor Cerio, Mayor Rosanne Warner has ordered flags on all village-owned properties be lowered to half-staff.
