Village office will no longer sell landfill punch cards
Effective January 1, 2025 the Canastota village office will no longer sell punch cards for the Madison County landfill.
The change is due to a new county policy which requires vendors to pre-pay for the punch cards before they’re sold to the public. By law, local municipalities are not allowed to use public money to purchase items ahead of time, even if they’re intended for resale.
Residents will be able to purchase the punch cards directly from the Madison County Department of Solid Waste, or from local retailers such as Kime Hardware and Tops in Canastota.
In addition, the county says the cost of a punch card will increase to $25.00 on January 1.
