Canastota flood recovery information
On June 22, 2025 parts of the Village of Canastota sustained significant damage from an overnight storm and subsequent flooding, particularly in the areas closest to the Canastota Creek. Numerous basements were flooded and power has been turned off to several neighborhoods in the village.
The Canastota Fire Department has been working since Sunday morning to assess the damage and assist affected residents with pumping out their basements.
A portion of Hickory Street between Peterboro and Main will be closed indefinitely while crews repair a sinkhole caused by a sewer main leak.
As of Monday morning the following resources are available to the public:
The Canastota VFW on Canal Road is serving as a cooling center and shelter for residents displaced by the flooding or anyone who needs a place to get out of the heat. The Red Cross will on site to assist throughout the day on Monday.
The Canastota American Legion on Rasbach Street will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to serve meals and help people cool off.
The Canastota Public Library on W. Center Street will be open as a cooling center from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Canastota village pool on Spencer Street will be open at 1:00 p.m. for anyone who wants to beat the heat.
Anyone who needs immediate emergency assistance with a medical or flooding issue should call 911.
Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the village office at (315) 697-7559 or village@canastota.com.

I was wondering if the village could have a bulk trash pickup, 1 day for those of us affected by the flood. We have a garage and basement of stuff ruined that is now just junk. Even a small fee could be imposed to offset your expense.
