CLERK (PT)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves the performance of standardized clerical tasks. Although detailed instructions are given for new or difficult assignments, and procedures are rather definitely fixed, employees must exercise independent judgment in applying them to specific cases. The work is performed using clearly defined agency guidelines, procedures and instructions and reviewed through periodic or spot checks and check of completed work. The incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
– Sorts, indexes and files mail, bills, requisitions, ledger cards and other materials;
– Pulls materials from files, makes file searches to collect data, and maintains records;
– Reviews applications, claims and other documents for completeness, content and accuracy;
– Checks reports and records for clerical accuracy, completeness and proper extension;
– Answers telephone and gives out routine information;
– Prepares routine reports or assists in preparation of reports by gathering data, preparing simple charts, etc;
– Collects fees and accounts for monies received;
– Maintains time records and payroll data;
– Operates a computer to enter and retrieve data according to prescribed instructions;
– Makes entries on control cards or in ledger from original sources;
– Operates copying, simple computing and other office machines;
– Makes arithmetic computations and compiles simple statistical reports.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to understand and interpret regulations, procedural manuals and other documents used in routine office processing; ability to use basic office equipment; ability to get along well with others; clerical aptitude; accuracy; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
