Storm debris pickup program – June 27 and 30
The Madison County Department of Solid Waste and Village of Canastota Department of Public Works are partnering to assist residents affected by the June 22, 2025 floods with trash and debris removal.
Beginning Friday morning, June 27, village DPW crews will go street to street and pick up trash and debris caused by Sunday’s floods. Residents who wish to utilize this program should leave their items at the curb. Please place the damaged items in trash bags or other disposable containers to make it easier for the crews to pick up.
The following items will NOT be accepted:
– Hazardous materials
– Gas cans
– Propane tanks
– Paint cans
– Chemicals, including fuel and petroleum products
– Tires

Any metal must be separated from the trash. It will be picked up separately and recycled.
The DPW crews will only pick up trash and debris from the following village streets:
S. Main St.
Rasbach St.
Pleasant St.
W. Hickory St.
Hickory St.
James St.
Depot St.
Center St.
Commerce St.
S. Canal St.
N. Canal St.
Souter St.
Chapel St.
MacArthur Pl.
Spencer St.
Lewis St.
Ball Ave.
Elm St.
Wilson Ave.
Maple Ave.
N. Main St.
Pickup will take place in the order listed. It will resume Tuesday morning for any streets the DPW doesn’t get to on Friday. The crews will only hit each street once.

Regular household trash pickup will take place on Monday and Tuesday. This special debris pickup is for large storm-damaged items only.
Madison County says anyone who needs help with cleaning out their homes can call 211 and request to be placed on the Team Rubicon list for assistance.
