Municipal Building renovation project
CANASTOTA, NY – Visitors to the Canastota/Lenox Municipal Building at 205 S. Peterboro Street are advised of a major renovation project that will get underway this week.
The project entails replacing several heavy concrete and brick walls with lighter metal studs and drywall to decrease the load these walls are placing on the support beams. There will also be renovations to the police department and first floor public restrooms to modernize the facilities and bring the restrooms into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
For the duration of the project, which is expected to take approximately three months, parts of the municipal building will be cordoned off to separate the construction zone from the rest of the offices. Also, parking in the Railroad Street lot will be limited while the contractor, MEID Companies of Oneida, uses the space for storage and disposal. Visitors can utilize the nearby lot on Depot Street or spaces along Peterboro Street for additional parking.
All regular village and town services will be available throughout the duration of the project. The Canastota Police Department will temporarily relocate to the basement of the municipal building while work is underway. The construction will not affect Village of Canastota or Town of Lenox Court dates.
Anyone with questions regarding the project can contact the Canastota village office at (315) 697-7559 or village@canastota.com.
