Village elections to move to November

CANASTOTA, NY – After a public referendum held on December 16, 2025, Village of Canastota residents have decided village elections will move from March to November.

The measure passed 34-15, according to the Madison County Board of Elections.

The BOE requested the change in an effort to reduce costs, increase voter turnout, improve convenience for voters, and bring village elections in line with those on the federal, state, county, and town levels.

Village elections take place every two years. The next village elections will be held on November 3, 2026 for two seats on the Board of Trustees, plus village justice.
