Notice of Public Hearings: Tax Exemptions
CANASTOTA, NY – At its meeting on January 3, 2024 the Village of Canastota Board of Trustees will hold two public hearings to discuss proposed local laws regarding tax exemptions for senior citizens (age 65 or older) and military veterans who served during the Cold War. A third public hearing will also be held regarding a proposed local law to clarify any potential tax exemption conflicts between the Village of Canastota and Town of Lenox.

VILLAGE OF CANASTOTA
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that there has been presented to the Village Board of the Village of Canastota, New York, on December 18, 2023, pursuant to the Municipal Home Rule Law, proposed Local Law No. I-2023, titled, “A Local Law To Amend Article IV of Chapter 196 of the Code of the Village of Canastota Regarding Tax Exemptions On Real Property Owned By Veterans of the Cold War Pursuant to Real Property Tax Law § 458-b.” Said Local Law, if enacted would eliminate the 10-year limitation on the exemption and allow for the exemption to continue for as long as the Cold War veteran remained a qualified owner as defined by RPTL § 458-b. The full text of said Local Law is on file at the Clerk’s Office at the Village Hall located at 205 South Peterboro Street, Canastota, New York for inspection by all interested persons during regular business hours.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that on December 18, 2023, the Village Board determined that this proposed Local Law is an unlisted action pursuant to the State Environmental Quality Review Act and a negative declaration was adopted at that time.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Village Board will hold a public hearing to consider proposed Local Law No. I-2023 at the said Village Hall on January 3, 2024, at 7:25 p.m. or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, at which time all persons interested will be heard.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that there has been presented to the Village Board of the Village of Canastota, New York, on December 18, 2023, pursuant to the Municipal Home Rule Law, proposed Local Law No. J-2023, titled, “A Local Law to Amend Chapter 196 of the Code of the Village of Canastota to Add Article V Regarding Tax Exemptions on Real Property Owned by Persons Sixty-Five Years of Age or over Pursuant to Real Property Tax Law § 467.” Said Local Law, if enacted would provide for new property tax exemptions for persons aged sixty-years of age or over. The full text of said Local Law is on file at the Clerk’s Office at the Village Hall located at 205 South Peterboro Street, Canastota, New York for inspection by all interested persons during regular business hours.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that there has been presented to the Village Board of the Village of Canastota, New York, on December 18, pursuant to the Municipal Home Rule Law, proposed Local Law No. K-2023, titled, “A Local Law to Amend Section 196-15 of Article II of Chapter 196 of the Code of the Village of Canastota Regarding Tax Exemptions Within the Village of Canastota.” Said Local Law, if enacted would provide that where real property tax exemptions recognized by the Village of Canastota differ from those recognized by the Town of Lenox, the exemptions recognized by the Village of Canastota shall control for citizens of the Village. The full text of said Local Law is on file at the Clerk’s Office at the Village Hall located at 205 South Peterboro Street, Canastota, New York for inspection by all interested persons during regular business hours.
